originals for sale
from gary stamper
NOW ACCEPTING OFFERS: Over a lifetime of creating art, I've sold hundreds of my original pieces, some commissioned, some in galleries. Displayed here are originals (and some prints) that I've kept in my personal collection. They have traveled with me in my various moves, usually hanging in my home, sometimes in storage or in a family members' home. I've even had a couple disappear without ever knowing what happened to them.
Now, however, as I approach 75, it's time to simplify my life some more and let some of these go. It's the first time many of them have been offered for sale. Some are expensively framed, some are not, but all are being sold as-is, and each carries a brief description and a price. If you'd like to make an inquiry one or more or make an offer, please contact me by email at garystamper@yahoo.com. I'm more than happy to speak with you... Here they are.

THE CHALLENGE
This young Osprey is beginning to feel its oats as it begins to approach its adulthood. The image was taken from a photo I captured while living in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where they were quite common. From the photo I created this colored pencil drawing on black canson art paper. making the image much more dramatic than the original photo. Exquisitely matted and framed

BEAR RIVER. graphite pencils of varying weights on Illustration Board.
Overall all size 29" x 22.5" with simple painted wood frame that works well with graphite (not shown).
A pencil drawing this complex takes much longer than a painting and the detail is amazing.
The drawing was taken from a river photo I took in Idaho and the bear was super-imposed into the drawing.

"ANTIQUE" GOLD LEAF SIGN
I created this as a display piece for one of the sign shops I owned. It is real gold leaf sign consisting of 18 karat white gold, and 20 and 22 karat gold leaf applied to the back of the glass with extreme care and the backed up for resilience. This is a mostly lost art today and you'll rarely see it at all except on very old bank buildings and old law firms. This stunning gold leaf sign would look great included in a fine antique, classic, or custom car auto collection. 12" x 20"

FRAMED ORIGINAL PAINTING FOR
CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT WINE LABEL
Includes label and brass plaque
beautifully displayed in custom matting and framing. Approx. 36" x 29" with frame. This was the 9th of 9 commissioned wine label paintings I created for a California bottler who specialized in custom bottling for resorts (see wine labels page).
Before this was painted, I had the first eight paintings on display in a gallery in Couer d'Alene, Idaho and a visiting collector bought all eight at the same time. Nice day for me at the gallery.

THE COEUR d'ALENE RESORT
CDA IDAHO
This painting of the Coeur d'Alene Resort was submitted for the custom resort wine label producer, but it was eventually declined because Idaho had a law that said an alcoholic beverage could not have an image of an establishment that sold alcohol (huh?). I've been delighted to have it in my personal collection for 25 years as it's one of my favorite paintings I've done, and at 37" x 27", it's beautifully framed.

SIERRA WATERFALLl
Signed Print, 26.5" x 22.75",Framed.
This is the only print of the original and is signed. This was created from a photo I took on a hike in the California Sierras, not too far from Lake Tahoe.
Like most of my pencil work, the pencils range from ultra-hard to ultra-soft, or light to dark. The harder pencils are great for detail, texture, and fine lines (water and the lighter rocks), while the darker pencils are used on the trees and on the bold shadows. Pencil remains my favorite technique, along with opaque watercolor, or "gouache," and a drawing like this can take up to 100 hours, one pencil stroke at a time
.
The framing consists of light gray and charcoal matting with a metallic charcoal aluminum frame.

This is Gouache (opaque watercolor, rhymes with squash) on illustration board and exquisitely framed and matted at a price of $550 in the mid-nineties. Everyone in the room is drawn to this painting and tries to stare the big cat down. Good luck!

BREAKFAST ON THE LAKE
Each winter from November through February a migrating population of bald eagles visits the Lake Coeur d' Alene area to feed on spawning kokanee salmon. The BLM began counting bald eagles around Wolf Lodge Bay in 1974. The number of eagles returning to this area varies from year to year.
It's not uncommon to see the eagles swoop down from their perches high above the lake swoop down with one thought in mind: catching that unsuspecting salmon as it nears the lakes' surface.
NOTE: the mats are slightly buckled due to moisture but painting is undamaged
